At Kardinia Rotary Club, in addition to supporting our own Rotary projects we fundraise to support many other worthy projects and activities in our local community, the broader Australian community, Rotary outreach programs and International projects.
We do this where providing hands-on volunteers is not possible but financial support to other organisations and projects can make a significant difference to the viability of vital community services.  As Rotarians we volunteer our time to events including Kids Plus Foundation Kite Day; Surf Coast Trek; Hope Bereavement Walk of Hope; event marshalling at various bike races (including the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race) and trail runs in the Geelong region; and we cook sausages at Bunnings Barbeques a couple of times a year, of course!

Kids Plus Foundation Kite Day

Kids Plus is a local Geelong Paediatric Therapy service that provides allied health services for families and young people who have physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy. The Kids+ Kites Festival is a Geelong based event designed to promote a sense of belonging and social and community connection by bringing together people of all abilities for a fun, accessible, and inclusive day. Participants are encouraged to buy a kite to fly or simply come along and enjoy the myriad of kites, large and small, that populate the skies.

Kardinia Rotary Club has supported this event since its inception, assisting with event set-up, marshalling, kite sales and distribution and providing a low cost food option for the event.

Fundraisers

Kardinia Rotary Club has a diverse range of fundraising activities spread throughout the year. These include;

Surf Coast Trek (Surf Coast Trek)

The Surf Coast Trek is a joint fundraising project for the Kids Plus Foundation and Give Where You Live. It involves a non-competitive 40km or 25km walk from Aireys Inlet or Anglesea to Torquay, along the scenic Surf Coast Walk. The event has run since 2017 and in that time has raised in excess of $1.5 million shared equally between the 2 organisations.

Kardinia Rotary Club has been a founding partner to the event proving support through event planning, preparing participant packs, putting out signage and on the day managing parking and bus departures, manning all 5 drink stations along the way and providing Tail End Charlies to support and ensure the safety of all walkers.

BBQ’s

Every Rotary club loves a sausage sizzle and Kardinia is no exception. We can be found at Bunnings Waurn Ponds 3-4 times per year as well as the Kids Plus Kite day. We also provide our BBQ services to Hope Bereavement Care for their Walk of Hope remembrance day.

Event Marshalling

Event Marshalling is another of our regular fundraising activities. We have established relationships with Rapid Ascent and have been involved for many years with 2 of their events in this region, The Otway Odyssey Mountain Bike Event held at Forrest and the Surf Coast Century trail run centred at Anglesea. We are a significant part of their volunteer support community and assist with event set-up, registration and bag management and on the day marshalling throughout the course.

We have a growing relationship with the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road race providing event marshals for multiple days and more recently the Geelong Ironman 70.3.

Marshalling at these highly competitive events enables members to see up close the dedication and commitment of both professional and highly talented amateur athletes.
